1st Post

Since this is my first post, I’ll just start off with a little background about myself.  I’m 22 years old and very motivated.  I’ve worked in a variety of positions, from having my own lawn-mowing business when I was 14 to a property manager when I was 17. I obtained a job as a computer technician at a local computer company shortly after I graduated high school, and I ended up getting laid off because there was a lack of work.  At this point, I ended up working in a warehouse that shipped credit card rewards all over the nation and decided that I needed to go to college.  After that, I left the job to be a punk college student in 2008 and ended up joining the army in March of 2008.  After almost a year of training, I returned home in January 2009 and got back to college later that year in August.

Since then I have been loving learning, and have been fairly successful at doing so.  My sophomore year, I started working at the tutoring center on campus for a few different subjects.  Although I didn’t take any of the pre-requesit computer classes, I tutored everyone who came in for computer help.  I had a trusty colleague that was a computer science major, and he handled the more complex classes that involved Java programming and upper division Calculus.  I tutored the business end of technology along with the business end of mathematics.  By the time I decided to move on from the tutoring center, I had been promoted to lead tutor for the Business School and I was qualified to tutor the following subjects:

  • Astronomy
  • Modern Cosmology
  • Business Calculus
  • Finite Mathematics
  • Introduction to Computers
  • the World Wide Web: The Internet and Beyond
  • Foundations of Information Systems
  • Structured Problem Solving in Information Systems
  • Telecommunication Systems and Networking

I was also technically qualified to tutor some subjects like Accounting, Statistics, and Management, but I didn’t need to add any additional burden as I would constantly be overloaded with students with just above mentioned courses.

Upon leaving this job, I had already begun a job at the University of Denver as a classroom support technician underneath the Penrose Library Department.  There were issues here, but it is quite the long story.  Needless to say, I was hired because I had a lot to bring to the table, but with my schooling, and my unwillingness to work full time, I ended up being nudged out.  I worked closely with the Classroom Support Manager who had me doing tasks that were not in my job title, and apparently Human Resources didn’t care for it much.  The IT department in the library didn’t like it too much because I was knowledgable enough to see their shortcomings and I  ended up stepping on toes because of the responsibilities my manager gave me.  I was building a department website, and also constructing a database to help manage inventory.  I tried to push for technologies like SharePoint to help streamline the communication process, but I was continuously met with a wall of resistance due to my position in the organization.  The only person that seemed to understand the value of the projects that I was working on was my direct supervisor, myself, and the supervisor for media support.  I ended up being fired because I forgot to mark 2 hours off of my timesheet that I had taken to go to physical therapy. ( I have disc desiccation in my spine)  Lets just say unless you become appointed staff there, they could care less if you were still breathing at the end of the day.  While I was fairly upset of the injustice and partialness of the library staff, I ended up moving on to bigger and better things that were far more interesting to me.

The Web has been one of my passions since I built my first computer in 1999.  I started to teach myself how to create dynamic websites in the early 2000’s and would stay up countless hours trying new things.  I just received my certificate in web development from the Metropolitan State University of Denver(MSU Denver) this past spring semester, and I’m very excited to finish my degree next spring.  Needless to say, I ended up starting a web development company, but didn’t register the company until June 2012.  This is a very exciting journey that I’ve decided to take and it continues to challenge me every day to learn more and do more.  This past summer, I worked on three different internships and finished my final business classes at MSU Denver.  I have 6 more classes to take to earn my bachelors degree in Computer Information Systems, and I’m considering moving into a Masters Degree of Information Systems at the University of Colorado : Denver Campus.

Other than work and school, I am an avid baseball player, and I love just about everything about life.  I love living, learning, and lager. 😛  Feel free to drop me a line anytime.
